A gruta compreende um po\u00e7o largo de entrada de di\u00e2metro de sec\u00e7\u00e3o de ordem de grandeza m\u00e9trica, com 18m, a que se se segue uma sequ\u00eancia de po\u00e7os mais estreitos com largura geralmente n\u00e3o superior a um metro, que no total somam mais cerca de 30m de profundidade \u00e0 gruta. padding: 0px;\"><p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0px;\">De acordo com a folha 27-A da Carta Geol\u00f3gica de Portugal\u00a0 \u00e0 escala 1:50000 (Manupella et al), a gruta desenvolve-se na forma\u00e7\u00e3o de Calc\u00e1rios M\u00edcriticos da Serra de Aire, datada do andar Batoniano (da \u00c9poca Jur\u00e1ssico M\u00e9dio). As forma\u00e7\u00f5es do Jur\u00e1ssico M\u00e9dio s\u00e3o as forma\u00e7\u00f5es c\u00e1rsicas por excel\u00eancia do MCE, (Crispim, 1995), sendo onde se encontra o maior n\u00famero de grutas e as de maior desenvolvimento. Estas caracter\u00edsticas s\u00e3o definidas por (B\u00f6gli, 1980) como sendo de uma cavidade de origem vadosa prim\u00e1ria. As caneluras que se desenvolvem ao longo dos po\u00e7os s\u00e3o formadas pelo efeito corrosivo e erosivo da \u00e1gua que escorre, goteja (Baro\u00f1, 2003), ou pela pr\u00f3pria aspers\u00e3o da \u00e1gua, ao longo das paredes de fraturas subverticais.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0px;\">Com base nas observa\u00e7\u00f5es acima referidas podemos afirmar que esta gruta ter\u00e1 sido formada em regime vadoso.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0px;\">A gruta \u00e9 classificada como um <em>vadose shaft<\/em><\/span><i><\/i><span style=\"font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0px;\">. Um <em>vadose shaft<\/em> p<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0px;\">ode ser traduzido para portugu\u00eas como \u201calgar de infiltra\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d. Estas grutas drenam a \u00e1gua que se acumula no epicarso, uma zona superficial do carso, caracterizado por uma maior intensidade da fractura\u00e7\u00e3o e da carsifica\u00e7\u00e3o difusa. O epicarso apresenta, merc\u00ea das caracter\u00edsticas antes referidas, uma maior permeabilidade, que a maior parte da zona vadosa subjacente, constituindo o suporte de um aqu\u00edfero suspenso. A \u00e1gua armazenada no epicarso drena para descontinuidades que se encontram na base do epicarso. Estas descontinuidades conduzem a \u00e1gua para o interior do maci\u00e7o em dire\u00e7\u00e3o aos coletores que se encontram em profundidade. Ao longo das descontinuidades e enquanto a \u00e1gua se mant\u00e9m agressiva ou v\u00ea a sua agressividade renovada por fen\u00f3menos como a corros\u00e3o por mistura, vai ocorrendo a corros\u00e3o do calc\u00e1rio que tem como consequ\u00eancia o alargamento das descontinuidades e a forma\u00e7\u00e3o de po\u00e7os.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0px;\">Ao longo destas descontinuidades, que se encontram na base do epicarso, desenvolvem-se, deste modo, grutas compostas essencialmente por po\u00e7os que conduzem a \u00e1gua at\u00e9 colectores no interior do maci\u00e7o Os coletores podem n\u00e3o estar geneticamente relacionados e nem sequer serem contempor\u00e2neos das cavidades que se desenvolveram na base do epicarso Esta liga\u00e7\u00e3o entre as cavidades da base do epicarso e o sistema de condutas ser\u00e1 feita, na maioria dos casos, atrav\u00e9s de zonas intranspon\u00edveis para o ser humano, tipicamente galerias que guiadas por uma camada ou por po\u00e7os de especto meandriforme controlados por descontinuidades. Esse fluxo concentrado alarga as fraturas, principalmente na base do epicarso. Como resultado, desenvolvem-se grutas embrion\u00e1rias fechadas e canais de drenagem, ambos com sec\u00e7\u00e3o transversal lenticular. Estas cavidades s\u00e3o geralmente muito estreitas e n\u00e3o t\u00eam liga\u00e7\u00e3o com a superf\u00edcie. A corros\u00e3o por finas pel\u00edculas de \u00e1gua \u00e9 provavelmente o principal agente espeleogen\u00e9tico respons\u00e1vel pelo seu alargamento. Fase de Po\u00e7o Jovem<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p><div style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0px;\">Mais tarde, o alargamento do po\u00e7o torna-se mais r\u00e1pido quando filmes e gotas de \u00e1gua conseguem cair verticalmente atrav\u00e9s da atmosfera rica em CO\u2082, adquirindo grande capacidade de corros\u00e3o. Elas atacam intensamente a rocha-m\u00e3e. Formam-se depress\u00f5es nos locais onde as gotas caem. \u00c0 medida que os po\u00e7os se aprofundam, essas depress\u00f5es alongam-se em sulcos ou caneluras de parede ao longo das faces inclinadas de fraturas subverticais (com inclina\u00e7\u00f5es de 70 a 90\u00b0). \u00c9 nesta fase que a taxa de alargamento do po\u00e7o \u00e9 m\u00e1xima. Os sulcos constituem as partes dominantes do volume do po\u00e7o, podendo atingir comprimentos de dezenas de metros e di\u00e2metros de v\u00e1rios dec\u00edmetros. O perfil resultante do po\u00e7o assemelha-se a uma sucess\u00e3o de degraus em forma de tri\u00e2ngulos ret\u00e2ngulos, com as paredes verticais formadas pela a\u00e7\u00e3o da \u00e1gua gotejante e as paredes diagonais correspondendo \u00e0 superf\u00edcie da fratura. A drenagem ocorre para baixo ao longo da fratura, que continua a ser um canal embrion\u00e1rio inacess\u00edvel.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0px;\">A expans\u00e3o da largura do po\u00e7o \u00e9 m\u00ednima quando a fratura \u00e9 vertical. O mesmo ocorre ao longo de fraturas subhorizontais, onde a acumula\u00e7\u00e3o de \u00e1gua nas depress\u00f5es impede o aprofundamento adicional causado pela \u00e1gua gotejante.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0px;\">A a\u00e7\u00e3o de pel\u00edculas de \u00e1gua e o desabamento de blocos acrescentam-se ao efeito da \u00e1gua gotejante, mas t\u00eam influ\u00eancia relativamente pequena no alargamento do po\u00e7o. A corros\u00e3o por condensa\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 mais intensa no topo do po\u00e7o, na base do epicarso, especialmente durante o inverno. A denuda\u00e7\u00e3o superficial, a corros\u00e3o do subsolo, e os efeitos qu\u00edmicos e mec\u00e2nicos das ra\u00edzes das \u00e1rvores combinam-se na abertura dos po\u00e7os at\u00e9 \u00e0 superf\u00edcie. Primeiro, surge uma depress\u00e3o incipiente no material do solo \u00e0 superf\u00edcie. O aprofundamento dos po\u00e7os diminui gradualmente, \u00e0 medida que menos \u00e1gua fica dispon\u00edvel para cada fratura individual. Come\u00e7a ent\u00e3o a forma\u00e7\u00e3o de espeleotemas, e esses dep\u00f3sitos tendem a ocultar as formas de dissolu\u00e7\u00e3o anteriores.<\/span><\/p><p>O di\u00e2metro de um po\u00e7o aberto aumenta devido \u00e0 meteoriza\u00e7\u00e3o, \u00e0 queda de blocos e \u00e0 atividade biol\u00f3gica (por exemplo, musgos, l\u00edquenes e ra\u00edzes de \u00e1rvores). Detritos, incluindo solo e mat\u00e9ria org\u00e2nica em decomposi\u00e7\u00e3o, acumulam-se abaixo da entrada e preenchem parcialmente o po\u00e7o. A decomposi\u00e7\u00e3o da mat\u00e9ria org\u00e2nica aumenta a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de CO\u2082 no ar da cavidade, especialmente junto ao fundo dos po\u00e7os.
